Chromate Conversion Coating (Chem Film / Alodine)

Chem film is a chemical conversion coating for aluminum that improves corrosion resistance and paint adhesion while keeping the surface electrically conductive. Alodine and Iridite are common trade names.

Design Tips

What to specify on your drawing

Negligible thickness

Adds essentially no measurable dimension; usually no masking needed for fits.

Grounding

Ideal for grounding and EMI contact surfaces.

Paint base

Common pre-treatment before powder coating or painting.

Handling

Coating is thin and can be scratched; avoid if wear resistance is needed.
