Aluminum Alloy (Non-Heat-Treatable)
5052 is a strain-hardened aluminum-magnesium alloy and the most common aluminum for formed sheet metal parts. It bends without cracking far better than 6061-T6 and offers very good corrosion resistance, including in marine atmospheres. Request a quote or browse all materials.
Typical Properties
| Property | Typical value |
|---|---|
| Density | 2.68 g/cm³ (0.0968 lb/in³) |
| Ultimate tensile strength | 228 MPa (33 ksi) |
| Yield strength (0.2%) | 193 MPa (28 ksi) |
| Elongation at break | ~12% |
| Hardness | 60 HB |
| Elastic modulus | 70.3 GPa |
| Thermal conductivity | 138 W/m·K |
| Melting range | 607–649 °C |
Typical values for H32 temper. Strength comes from cold work, not heat treatment. These are typical reference values from standard published data, not guaranteed minimums. Request material certificates in your RFQ if properties must be verified.
Advantages
Tight bends and formed flanges with low cracking risk.
Very good in salt spray and marine air.
Welds well with common filler alloys.
Widely stocked in standard sheet gauges.
Design considerations: Lower strength than 6061-T6; softer material machines with gummy chips; anodized appearance can be less uniform than 6061.
