Austenitic Stainless Steel
316 adds about 2–3% molybdenum to the austenitic chromium-nickel base, which significantly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chlorides such as seawater and de-icing salts. Request a quote or browse all materials.

| Composition | ~17% Cr, ~12% Ni, 2–3% Mo |
Annealed condition. 316L has lower carbon for welded assemblies. These are typical reference values from standard published data, not guaranteed minimums. Request material certificates in your RFQ if properties must be verified.
Advantages
Better pitting resistance than 304 in marine and salt exposure.
Common for process equipment and fluid handling.
Welds well; 316L limits carbide precipitation.
Retains useful strength at elevated temperatures.
Design considerations: Higher cost than 304; gummy machining behavior and work hardening; not heat treatable for hardness.
